The College history
S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia, founded on 3 February 1851 by the first Bishop of Colombo, the Rt. Revd. James Chapman, D.D., is one of Sri Lanka's most historic and respected educational institutions. Established as an Anglican Church School under the Church of Ceylon, the College was founded for the glory of God, with a vision to nurture young men through Christian values, discipline, service and citizenship. Originally located in Mutwal, the College moved in 1918 to its iconic Mount Lavinia campus, overlooking the Indian Ocean. Today, STC is widely recognised for its beautiful campus, the Chapel of the Transfiguration, strong academic tradition, sporting excellence, cultural life and deep sense of community. For generations, S. Thomas' has welcomed students of different faiths, cultures and backgrounds, creating a school community built on respect, fellowship and the enduring Thomian spirit. With a proud history in academics, leadership, sports, music, societies, service and public life, the College has produced many distinguished Thomians who have contributed to Sri Lanka and the wider world. More than a school, S. Thomas' College represents tradition, character and brotherhood. Its legacy continues through generations of Thomians who carry forward the values of integrity, resilience, service and the call to be 'men and gentlemen always.'

The Old Boys Association
The S. Thomas' College Old Boys' Association Australian Branch was founded in Melbourne in 1972 and is recognised as the first overseas branch of the parent OBA in Sri Lanka. Its beginnings trace back to a request by then Warden Mr S. J. Anandanayagam to Mr C. R. Wise, a former Sub-Warden of S. Thomas' College, to help bring Old Thomians in Australia together. The inaugural meeting was held on 28 February 1972 at All Saints Church, East St Kilda, where a small group of Old Thomians formally established the Association. From these humble beginnings, the OBA grew into a vibrant community that continues to foster Thomian fellowship, support S. Thomas' College and its branches, and maintain strong links among Old Thomians in Australia and overseas. Over the years, the Association has supported many College and community initiatives, including fundraising projects, sporting events, cultural gatherings, disaster relief efforts and long-standing traditions such as the Royal-Thomian cricket match, the Transfiguration Service, the Carol Service, Seniors Lunch and the Thomian Ball. Today, the STC OBA in Melbourne continues to carry forward the Thomian spirit — preserving friendship, service, tradition and brotherhood across generations.
